When it came time to name our axe bar in Spencer Iowa, we were a bit stuck.

A lot of great name suggestions to consider, but only one captured the spirit of this place. And just as important, the tagline – “We Understand”.

Axaholics.

Let’s face it, and it is happening all over north America right now, the first time you grab an axe handle and let that axe fly at a wood target, hoping for a bullseye, you are addicted. And with family and friends all around and you get your first bullseye, it is now a family affair. And then come league nights!

A lot of new players suddenly feel a connection to the ancient times and start to understand why axes back in the day were called “thunderbolts”. So strong was the connection that they were used to keep lightning away, hailstorms from damaging crops, witches away from the town festival and assure a “strong male offspring” when properly placed under a bed.

And it obviously worked as well for a “strong female offspring” as evidenced by the warrior princess ‘Lagertha’ hailed as the “Shield Maiden”!

So now good people, you have an exciting new gathering place in Spencer Iowa to discover the magic of the axe.
